OnlineTechnology of the Future

Okay, so this is not the article on comparison of the versions of WordPerfect but I thought this was too good not to pass on immediately. I do not know how many of you receive WordPerfect Magazine but the December, 1997, issue had a marvelous article on WordPerfect Online. I would like to pass on a few of those tips to you.

Corel's official site is http://www/corel.com/. Right from the home page you should see a "support" link. Choose that link to go to the main Support area. At this point, you have several options. If you want to just browse and see what information is available on the Web site, choose one of the links on the right hand side of the page. Here you will find the information divided by type:

Customer Support Information. With this link, you can register your software, get upgrade information, and get replacement disks. Use the AnswerPerfect link if you want a professional to answer your question - note that there is a fee charged for this service.

Newsgroup Support. This is a listing of all the official WordPerfect Suite newsgroups, where you can ask-and answer-questions about the product you are using.

Tips and Tricks, Learning. General information. The Tips and Tricks area has just what you would expect. This area also has information about how you can get training on the Suites.

Knowledge Base. This tool is like having a customer support operator right on your computer. This search engine gives you access to the same database Corel's Support Operators use. Just type in the keywords for the questions you have and hit GO.

FAQs. "Frequently Asked Questions" A Good place to look for an answer to your question.

There are also a number of unofficial Web Sites you might like to play with.

WordPerfect Universe (www.wpwin .com). This site contains a number of macros, a chat area where you can ask Gordon McComb-the macro maven, consultant and WordPerfect guru -questions as well as information. Good site.

WordPerfect Macro Consulting and Training (www.wpmacros.com) Free macros tutorial and macro programming newsletter, helpful articles and a question and answer section.

WordPerfect Suite Magazine Online (www.wpmag.com). Compliments the magazine. Check here for articles, macros, books reviews, order information, etc.

CompuServe has a number of Forums relating to WordPerfect. Here are some examples:

WordPerfect Users Forum (Go WPUSER). If a WordPerfect question - regardless of the version can be answered, it can be answered here. There is a huge quantity of files available for download.

Corel WordPerfect for Windows Forum (Go WPWIN). Corel's official site for WordPerfect for Windows.

Finally, but not least. If you don't have an Internet connection or an account with CompuServe, as long as you have a modem, you can still get updates and utilities by connecting directly to the Corel WordPerfect BBS (Bulletin Board System). Start your terminal program, dial in to (801) 221-5197. Register, make up a password, no WordPerfect registration is required. If you download the freely available Wildcat! program, you will have a graphical interface to the BBS which will make finding the information you need much faster. Note: If you do have an internet connection, you can still get quick and easy access to this bulletin board. Just go to the following URL: http://bbs.corel-us.com/

I hope you will all try surfing the Corel network. Who knows with the amount of information available on line, this article might not be necessary in the future and I will be out of a very enjoyable job. Keep me posted on your results.
